Dog collars

Dog collars: polyester, fabric or bandana, how to choose?

The collar is still the accessory used most every day: it carries the ID tag, acts as the attachment point for the lead and dresses up your dog on every outing. Well chosen, above all it should stay comfortable and safe, whatever your companion's build.

Which collar material should you choose?

Polyester is a strong, lightweight material that copes well with damp and is easy to clean: a good choice for an active dog that spends time in the woods, on the beach or in the water.

Fabric is softer and more supple against the skin. It particularly suits dogs with sensitive necks or small breeds, for whom comfort matters more than extreme toughness.

Soft PVC combines good resistance to wear with very easy care: it rinses clean with water and dries quickly, making it a practical option for heavy use.

How to measure your dog's neck

To choose the right size, measure your dog's neck with a soft tape measure where it would naturally wear its collar, then add 2 to 3 cm for a comfortable fit (you should be able to slide two fingers between the collar and the neck).

As a guide:

Dog size Example breeds Usually suitable size
Small (under 10 kg) Yorkshire Terrier, Bichon Frise, Chihuahua XS / S
Medium (10–25 kg) Cocker Spaniel, Shiba Inu, Border Collie M
Large (25–40 kg) Australian Shepherd, Labrador L
Extra large (40 kg and over) Rottweiler, Great Dane, St Bernard XL

This table is only a guide: build varies from one dog to another, so it's always better to go by the actual neck measurement rather than the breed's theoretical size.

Our collections and patterns

Beyond the material, a collar is a real style accessory. Our collections cover a range of worlds: exotic flowers and leaves in the Tropical range, colourful feathers in the Panache range, abstract patterns inspired by coral reefs in the Reef range, geometric prints in the Mandala range, as well as the Savannah and Lagoon ranges. For dogs who love water, the Hexa waterproof collar comes in several plain colours.

Collar and bandana sets

The collar and bandana set combines the classic fastening of a collar with a piece of fabric, for a dressier look. It's a great way to vary your dog's style day to day or for a special occasion, without sacrificing comfort. The collar and bandana set is available in all our patterned ranges, each with its own colour palette, from the most subtle to the brightest.

FAQ

How do I know if my dog's collar is too tight? You should be able to slide two fingers between the collar and the neck without forcing. If it leaves a mark when removed or affects breathing, it's too tight.

Do I need to keep changing my puppy's collar size? Yes, puppies grow quickly: check the fit every few weeks and choose an adjustable model while they're growing.

Polyester or waterproof PVC: which is best for a dog that swims a lot? Soft PVC dries faster and stands up better to frequent use in water than polyester.

Is a collar and bandana set as strong as a classic collar? Yes, the collar part is made with the same materials and the same fastening system as our classic models; the bandana simply adds a decorative touch.

FAQ

Dog collars: frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Contact us
How do I choose the right collar size for my dog?

Measure your dog's neck size, then add 2 cm for optimal comfort.
A well-fitted collar lets you slide two fingers between the neck and the strap.

Collar or harness: which is best for my dog?

A collar suits calm dogs and short outings.
A harness is recommended for puppies, dogs that pull, long walks and dogs with sensitive windpipes.
Many owners use both, depending on the situation. The collar is also where the ID tag goes.

Is a collar suitable for puppies?

Yes, as long as it's lightweight, adjustable and suited to their neck size.
A collar that's too heavy or too wide can bother a puppy.

Can my dog wear the collar all day?

Yes, if it's comfortable and fits well.
We recommend taking it off:

- At bedtime
- When playing with other dogs
- When supervised at home

How do I clean a dog collar?

- Polyester collars: hand wash or machine wash on a gentle cycle (20/30 °C). Collars dry quickly in the open air. To make your dog collar last, it's important to care for it regularly. We recommend wiping it with a soft cloth to remove any built-up dirt. Avoid contact with abrasive substances or harsh chemicals, as they can damage the material.

- Soft PVC collars : just wipe with a sponge or rinse under the tap. A quick wipe with a cloth and it's dry instantly.

Which collar should I choose for a dog that pulls?

A classic collar isn't ideal if your dog pulls hard.
A no-pull harness is a better choice.
The collar is still useful for ID or calm outings.

Are the dog collars adjustable?

Goofy Goldens collars are adjustable with a sliding adjuster buckle to allow for growth or changes in weight. We chose not to use a belt-style fastening so we could offer a precise, simple adjustment.

How can I tell if the collar is bothering my dog?

Common signs are:

- Scratching at the neck
- Shaking the head
- The collar keeps turning.

If so, check the fit or the size.
